Concord Armor At War Series - U.S. Battles in France 1944-45
.S. Armored units took part in all of the major campaigns in the battles for France. U.S. tank operations in France involved two types of formations. The armored divisions were intended primarily for mobile operations, and their principal role was to exploit deep behind enemy lines once a penetration had been won by the infantry. Of the sixteen armored divisions raised in WWII, all but one served in the European Theatre of Operations. The separate tank battalions were formed to provide support to the infantry. In France, most infantry divisions had a tank battalion and a tank destroyer temporarily attached to them to conduct specific operations.

This book is a companion volume to "U.S. Tank Battles in Germany 1944-45", also authored by Steven Zaloga. Most photos are from U.S. Army Signal Corps, sharp and clear. Besides U.S. tanks like the Sherman and its many variants, M10, M36, there are also photos of knocked out Panthers, PzKpfw IV, Hanomag, Flak 38(t), Hertzer, Wirbelwind, and a rare SdKfz 251/21.
